Home Inspection Tips for Buyers - Two Helpful Resources

posted May 30, 2011, 6:31 AM by Rodney Greening   [ updated Jun 1, 2011, 3:15 PM ]

Having a home inspection is a smart move that provides peace of mind when buying a new or older house.  It also can save buyers thousands of dollars because issues are found before the deal is closed.  Repairs can be negotiated as part of the sales price, or the buyer can ask that the seller fix issues before closing the deal.

Perhaps you're a buyer and wanting to learn more about the home inspection process.  Or, you might be an agent wanting to point your customer to a helpful resource to learn more about the home inspection process.  There are two resources we'd like to recommend:

For more information about the home inspection process for buyers, you can visit our FAQs page.  This page is based on information from the Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors which provides a lot of helpful tips.

Another resource is a home inspection tips article posted by One Money Design, which is a personal finance blog.  The article provides basic tips on the home inspection process which include:  reasons you need a home inspection and several tips to make sure you get the most of the process.

Home Inspection Checklist

posted May 28, 2011, 11:11 AM by Rodney Greening   [ updated Jun 1, 2011, 3:19 PM ]

I came across a nice resource for home buyers as well as sellers at  They offer a home inspection checklist.  As a seller, use the checklist to walk through your home before selling to assess what repairs you might need to make.  This is helpful when establishing your home selling budget, or identifying repairs that should be disclosed to the buyer.  As a buyer, it's good to keep these things in mind when walking through a house of interest.  However, you'll want to make sure you're hiring a certified home inspector to perform your inspection and generate a professional report.
